Faith Like Birds | Part I

Updated: Feb 28, 2019

"Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?" | Matthew 6:26

I am so grateful that God is not silent…

One of the ways that God speaks is through the works of His hands. Indeed, what He has made reveals His power, His majesty, and His glory. Creation declares that God is in the details and that the details matter — including the details of our lives.

Anxiety and worry permeate our culture. It seems more normal than not to succumb to these thieves of joy and peace.

Indeed, many people worry about many things.

  • Finances

  • Work

  • Relationships

  • Health

Even when things are going well, most people tend to worry about what they believe will inevitably come upon them and disrupt their moment of peace. Thus, they can’t even enjoy the moment because they live in a town called “What If?”

Sadly, it’s difficult to receive our daily bread today (Matthew 6:11) when we live in tomorrow. God’s remedy for the ailment of anxiety is simple. He tells us to “look at the birds.” Why? Because they’re speaking to us….

Unfortunately, many of us are too busy, too distracted, and straight up too stressed out to take a moment and observe what’s happening outside. Many of us have too much noise in our lives to hear the song of the ones God cares for — a song free of worry and concern.

Whenever I hear birds sing, I’m reminded of one simple fact: God cares for them. He meets their

needs. More than that, the Bible tells me that I am more valuable to Him than they are.

The answer to anxiety is simple. I need to know my value before God.

God cares for what He values… and my life means something to Him.

If God values me, then He is concerned about my wellbeing. If He cares for the birds, He’ll care for me.

Birds don’t worry about tomorrow. They aren’t storing up for the future. They live in the moment and

because of that, they are free to sing.

Today, if you just so happen to hear the song of the ones God cares for, I pray that the peace of the Lord comes upon you as you hear these simple words in their song: “Your life has value to God.”
